First DVD with Laserlock DVD Rot

Thank you for that link, Julien. One day, I need to check -all- of my HD DVDs, I suppose, and decide how many of them I want to replace with Blu-ray versions (if I have not done so already). Half of them probably are still never opened, including Phantom Of The Opera, that I bought on April 18, 2006. That was the first day of release for discs on the format, though I know some people got one or more of the first three discs before that. I got my first player on April 15, I do still have it.

With that in mind, and the widespread failures of Warner Brothers HD DVDs, are/were there a large number of WB DVDs that have also failed?

Well this is a funny one, I was trying to keep this as a DVD topic but now it changed into an HD-DVD.

Different format.

I think we all know HD-DVD is a s**t format and rot rate is very high.
Spoke with grasshopper and he couldn't believe that regular DVDs have issues now.

Same factory, same timeframe but new format to add to the rot s**t list.

Slow down and read please. These are discs stamped exactly the same way in the same factory on the same day all rotting for the same reason, sometimes even in the same package. The topic has not strayed off course.

Ah thx, I see the other post above on page 1 that had HD-DVD and wanted to keep the topic focused to DVDs.
So many of these topics get strayed in the past couple years, and there are so many how to fix players, and the forum has gone astray from topics.

Well we have another DVD Rotter, just picked up a copy of The Spy Who Loved Me THX DVD and its skipping halfway through playback.
This is an older DVD compared to the other DVDs from WB that have rotted.

Anybody else have this DVD to confirm it has any playback issues????
Seems that all films for home may not be worth the risk in the end???????

Title pretty much sums it up, I just bought a DVD on ebay for TRON and the disc looks fine but it locks up for the first 25 minutes, it will play after I skip and the player catches it.

Does anybody else have any cases of major label DVDrotters?
Sort of bothersome as I know all these formats will eventually die quicker than the
1900 printing of the Fall of the Roman Empire I just acquired but this is sad to say the least.

This DVD is only from 2002 and its very sad, and there may be a bunch of DVDs on the market very soon

Infamous Warner Titles Form 2006-2010 are effected, New Line as Well. Not sure On HBO.

Yes but this DVD doesn't fit in those years, so its started and everybody was worried about LD laserrot.

Actually the rot happens on ALL disc formats.

Some CDs have bronzing, HD DVDs are a complete mess for some studio releases, Blu-Rays stop working suddenly (there's a thread on the German Movieside forum) and yes, DVDs also.

So far, I had the least issues with CDs and DVDs.
HD DVDs from Warner have a 99% rot chance, others are WAY better.
Blu-Rays fail from time to time. There are some studios that have a high chance if the disc was produced in a certain timeframe.
