I’m also impartial to Air Force One but I did find that the AC-3 mix is the same as in the SuperBit (or even standard edition) DVD.

Then let me be very partial on that one as this is an example of great dynamic range through various media releases as already mentioned in another thread. Likely considered being a rather mediocre catalog title by the labels, there might have been no motivation to mangle with the audio afterwards which comes to an advantage here and so it's simply great on either LD, DVD and Blu-ray (probably even VHS at the time).

In general, the term "compression" in conjunction with lossy codecs is suboptimal and better be called "data reduction" as "compression" is also often associated with dynamic range reduction which is exactly one element which none of the usual suspects like AC3, DTS, MP1/2/3, AAC, Vorbis alter compared to their LPCM counterparts. All feature huge dynamic ranges with their floating point representation of the signal, even exceeding that of 24-Bit linear PCM audio (which due to the by far lower limits of human hearing and reproduction chain cannot be fully used anyway, but that is a topic on its own).

The mix is really well done, rears are nicely active and great stage movements left right.

I've had that title for awhile now but haven't had a chance to spin it up. I'll go look for it and make some time to experience it. Thanks for the recommendation.

Also, just re-watched some of the "Daylight" and once again I will say it's easily in my top ten for an excellent mix; could very well be a theatrical mix as the levels are impressive but not sure unless I had the DVD to compare.

Im sure it sounds epic on any format but would love to have on LD.
Watched around Christmas time on the DTS dvd release and was little underwhelmed but not poor at all sound wise.
Artifacting was shocking

I'm pretty sure, between the amount of space the DTS track takes up and the length of the film, the video is likely fairly low bitrate even with VBR (no clue if it's VBR or CBR) to fit on a single dual-layer disc/side.

I watched LA Confidential this past weekend. A movie I've never seen, and had picked up the LD a couple of months ago.

I was impressed with the AC-3 on this one. It was very tastefully and carefully mixed. Very directional, the channel each sound came from made sense, levels were good. The shootout scene was intense in 5.1!

It's also a great movie, and I highly recommend it. Very well done neo-noir stuff with a good plot and good pacing. Not a genre I'm typically into, but I liked this one. The LD's picture quality was well above average, too. I might as well have been watching a DVD. This was the US release, catalog number 14913.

The AC-3 Dolby on LA Confidential is phenomenal,
Incredibly well done.
The picture is also spectacular, fantastic flick to grab on LD

Last weekend after a late night sat down and flicked through channel and on TV just starting was braveheart.
Not seen for years, first advertising break i fired up the R7G and threw in:
Braveheart (1995) (Uncut) [LV 33118-2WS]

What a great sound from LaserDisc.
AC-3RF is fantastic on this to my EarHoles.
Right up there
Fantasticly makes use of the rears superbly,

I donned a pair of cotton gloves and carefully caressed and ran my finger over the power button of my CLD-R7G before asking it's permission to press the button and switch it on. With permission granted, I donned a fresh pair of cotton gloves and pressed the eject button before calmly and considerately placing a Laserdisc on the disc tray. I donned a fresh pair of cotton gloves and pressed the eject button once more in order to respectfully load the disc prior to donning another pair of cotton gloves in order to handle the remote control in order to facilitate use of the play button and any other settings I wished to enable and/or modify with the blessing of the almighty CLD-R7G.

After screening the Laserdisc of my choice, I thanked my CLD-R7G for giving me the pleasure of a tremedous audiovisual experience before kindly, considerately and carefully powering the CLD-R7G down so it could rest easy, safe in the knowledge that it may provide me with another superb audiovisual experience at a future date of my choosing.

Just curious if anyone has had a chance to compare.

Been thinking of obtaining the Dante’s Peak Signature Collection LD but I wanted to know if anyone has compared its DD 5.1 track to the one on the Collector’s Edition DVD to see if it was re-mixed for near field.
